09 Sep An Evening of Two Works: Etched in the Skin and In the Same Boat
Premiere of the dance piece Etched in the Skin on 16 October 2025
Etched in the Skin is a dance piece that reflects the landscape of the body through touch. The performers are adults and older dancers, with backgrounds ranging from professional dancers to enthusiasts. This brings to the stage a diverse group of performers, rich in life experience, where each body tells its own story.
The work is rooted in the senses and explores questions such as: What do our different senses tell us, and what traces of memory do they carry? How do we rely on our senses at different ages, and do the voices of the young and the old resonate within us at the same time?
The choreography is by Nanna Rahikainen.
Sound design is by Janis Heldman.
Dancers: Ailish Maher, Riina Kalmi, Nanna Rahikainen, Riitta Knif, Arja Koukku, Ulla Valli, Eeva Palm, Helinä Lehtinen, Anna Ekström, Ritva Innilä, Ullariitta Stenholm, and Marita Laaksonen.
Producer: Mia Malviniemi.
The piece is part of the Dance at Any Age project, aimed at older adults and professional dancers. Since 2016, MCo has produced various artistic content for older audiences. Through this project, launched in 2023, the goal has been to create encounters and interaction between older adults and professional dancers through dance art.
In the Same Boat
“A film about the limits of the aging body and the boundlessness of the mind.”
The short film In the Same Boat will be screened on the same evening as the dance piece. Directed by Mervi Junkkonen and choreographed by Mia Malviniemi, the film was completed in 2023. It has received several awards at international film festivals and has reached over 5,000 viewers.
